Our Worship

What to expect:

Many people might hesitate to visit a church unless they know what it will be like when they go there. We want to assure you that as a visitor at the Mt. Washington Church of Christ, you will treated with dignity and honor.

We as Christians in this place are earnestly striving to practice Christianity as seen in the New Testament. A central ingredient in our services is worship that focuses on pleasing God. Our intent is to do His will as instructed by His word, the Bible.

All of our assembled worship services are sincere and devout. They are keynoted by the words of Jesus, "God [is] Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." (John 4:24).

Our services consist only of those acts that were part of the worship of the early church:

  • The entire assembly joins in worshipping God and teaching and admonishing each other by singing hymns and spiritual songs in the manner prescribed by the New Testament (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16). We encourage everyone to sing and give praise to God, speaking to one another as to teach and admonish with the words of Christ.
  • We hear a lesson from God’s word. The preaching in our services is simple and, most importantly, Biblical. People are urged to believe and obey the Gospel of Christ as it is revealed in the New Testament.  (2 Cor. 4:5, 2 Tim. 4:1,2, Gal. 1:8, Eph. 3:8, Mt. 28:18-20) The theories and doctrines of men are not taught.
  • The assembly is led in prayer to God by several of the men at different times. We pray to praise and thank God and to ask Him for our needs and those of others (1 Timothy 2:1-4, Acts 4:24).
  • We also remember the sacrificial death, burial and resurrection of Jesus through taking the Lord's supper (1 Corinthians 11:20-36). We do this every Sunday (Acts 20:7). Each time we partake of this Supper we proclaim the Lord’s death and the power of it until He returns. (1 Cor. 11:26)
  • The first day of each week (Sunday), when we gather, a collection is taken from the membership and placed in the common treasury to support the work of the local church. We make no pleas for money from our visitors. It is the responsibility of our members to give freely and willingly as they have been prospered (1 Corinthians 16:1-2; 2 Corinthians 9:7-15). God loves the cheerful giver (2 Cor. 9:7) These monies are used the same way as those of the New Testament church. They are for the benevolence to our Christian brethren, to support the preaching of the gospel and the work of the local church. (2 Cor. 8,9, 1 Cor. 9:14,16:1,2, Phil. 4:15,16, Hebrews 10:24,25)
